A clevis hanger is a two-part adjustable device for suspending pipes. Its top section is a U-shaped clevis that attaches to a threaded rod, while the bottom is a formed strap supporting the pipe. Connected by a pin, this joint allows pivoting. The assembly is secured overhead with nuts and washers. Its primary function is to support the pipe's weight and contents, permit vertical adjustment, restrict lateral movement, and accommodate limited vertical pivoting due to thermal expansion.

Vertical Adjustability: The most prominent feature. Nuts on the threaded rod above and below the clevis allow for precise height positioning.
Pivoting Action: The clevis pin connection allows the pipe to pivot slightly, preventing stress on the hanger and piping during thermal movement.
Rigid Support: Provides strong, dependable support, restricting horizontal movement.
Two-Piece Design: Simplifies installation; the bottom strap can be placed on the pipe before the top clevis is attached.
